About The Author

Donald R Johnston

Don Johnston, known as Donny to his friends, Don to his family, and Doc to some he works with, considers himself on the same level as anyone else. He is not known for his academic achievements but for his outgoing, encouraging attitude toward those around him.

For many years, he has worked the rough and tough life of a construction worker, first with his father for seventeen years and then in his own company for thirteen years. Since 2013, he has been working at the railroad as a conductor. His life has been wrought with many challenges because of this.

At the railroad, he has witnessed deaths and tragedies, but none has impacted him as much as his derailment in December 2020.

He fully understands what it means to suffer and persevere through difficult times, including unfaithfulness and the deaths of many friends and family members, including his brother and son, due to drug use. He also understands what it is like to endure the heartaches and sufferings caused by his own misguided choices in life, following his sinful tendencies. He would say he failed to place his love for God in Christ above all earthly things.

However, along with this suffering came the understanding of a continual deliverance, available through the forgiveness and cleansing granted to those who confess and truly repent. In the process, he experienced comfort from the God of all comfort, who continued to move in his heart and mind, filling it with joy and wonder as he gained a truer knowledge of His compassion, mercy, grace, and loving patience to restore and heal his broken heart.

He now lives with his wife of sixteen years and their three boys, along with three girls and a boy who live on their own.

God has granted him a loving and faithful spirit, and together with his wife, they continue to minister to those around them. He desires to share the comfort that he has been comforted with by encouraging and lifting those around him, guiding and instructing them in the word of truth, of the greatest gift of all, which is the love of God in Christ. This book is just one example of his ministry.
